  18. CUPERTINO, California--June 16, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc. today
  19. announced that 100 software application programs developed
  20. specifically for its new Power Macintosh  family of personal
  21. computers are now shipping.  These applications--often referred to as
  22. "native" applications--take advantage of the industry-leading power
  23. of the Power Macintosh systems and are growing in number
  24. impressively.  They join thousands of Macintosh  and MS-DOS
  25. applications that run unaltered on the new systems, introduced just
  26. three months ago.
  27.      The new applications represent a diverse range of popular software
  28. categories including publishing, general business and productivity,
  29. education, multimedia, technical markets and entertainment.  Vendors
  30. shipping new applications include Adobe Systems' popular Adobe
  31. Illustrator product, Aldus Corporation's PageMaker and FreeHand
  32. programs, Claris Corporation's ClarisWorks and Claris Impact, and
  33. WordPerfect Corporation's WordPerfect.  (See attached list of all
  34. currently shipping products).
  35.      "With more than one hundred native applications shipping in less
  36. than 100 days, we are off to a strong start in garnering worldwide
  37. developer support," said Guerrino De Luca, vice president marketing
  38. for the AppleSoft  division.  "With a wide array of exceptional
  39. applications on-base today and even more in the on-deck circle, we're
  40. providing Macintosh--and MS-DOS customers--with an increasingly
  41. compelling reason to sign up with Power Macintosh."
  42.      "The Power Macintosh platform has allowed us to supercharge our
  43. popular graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator, and deliver
  44. localized native versions around the globe," said John Kunze,
  45. director product marketing for Adobe's Application Products Division.
  46. "The resulting solutions of Apple's Power Mac and Adobe's native
  47. software brings our mutual customers incredible graphics
  48. performance."
  49.      Apple expects the majority of mainstream Macintosh
  50. applications--such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe
  51. Dimensions, Adobe Type Manager, Claris MacWrite Pro, Microsoft Excel,
  52. Microsoft Word, and Quark XPress--to be available in native mode by
  53. late summer.  By Fall 1994, Apple expects hundreds more applications
  54. to join the growing roster of new native Power Macintosh applications.
  55. Worldwide developer support and enthusiasm for Power Macintosh remains
  56. strong; over 22 native applications, for instance, have been
  57. developed in Japan alone.  Each week, new developers from other
  58. platforms are calling Apple to find out how to port applications to
  59. the Power Macintosh and join the Macintosh family.
  60.      To make the transition easy for Macintosh customers, the majority
  61. of software vendors are offering very low-priced or even free upgrade
  62. programs from their 680x0 version software to native products for
  63. Power Macintosh systems.  The programs allow customers to purchase
  64. Power Macintosh computers and 68K applications today with the
  65. assurance of easily migrating to native Power Macintosh versions of
  66. the software as soon as they become available.
  67.      Power Macintosh is the next-generation of Macintosh personal
  68. computers based on PowerPC , a new RISC-based microprocessor family
  69. developed by Apple , IBM and Motorola.  Power Macintosh computers
  70. bring new levels of performance and functionality to personal
  71. computing at low prices.  Apple plans to offer a full line of Power
  72. Macintosh products from entry-level to high-end systems and many
  73. upgrade paths for 680x0-based Macintosh customers.
